Kasala - The rebel Justice and Equality Movement fighting for the equal right of the marginalised people of Sudan have today claimed that, they have captured a government stronghold in South Kordofan near Abu Jabar oil field.
The rebel's statement comes as the group were said to have moved inwards to Sudan from South Sudan territory according to SAF. JEM's spokesman Gibril confirmed to the Upper Nile Times that the attack did take place but blamed the SAF army for the assault.
He said that, there is a fighting taking place between the SAF and the rebels as of now but casualties are yet to be verified due to the scale of war and the manpower to count the victims. He added that they have taken control of an oil field near Jabar and surrounding areas.
The rebels were accused of having tie with the government in South Sudan, a position they strongly denied. The group were initially a part of Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLM) who fought a 23 years old war against the Khartoum regime brought to an end by a peace agreement signed in Nairobi on January 9th 2005.
